Old Jewish Cemetery is made available to visitors as the Museum of Cemetery Art. It is the only in Wrocław preserved necropolis from the turn of the 19 th and 20 th century. It is also an original and unique complex of tombstone sculpture and small architecture. The first burial there took place in 1856, the last in 1942. The appearance of gravestones was gradually changed throughout the years –from traditional matzevah to daring in their forms and monumental family tombs. In the later ones it is possible to notice the inspirations with architecture of almost every period. Many prominent inhabitants of Wrocław, including artists, scientists, politicians and entrepreneurs are buried at the cemetery.
