Persōna. Masks and forms by Mateusz Mirowski

The exhibition presents masks and forms created for theatre performances, as well as spatial sketches and prototypes resulting from artistic experiments, created especially for the exhibition. The artist pursues his personal artistic fascinations and answers the question: what and how should the subsequent characters he creates sound?

“The Latin word persōna is a term originally used to describe a theatrical mask, probably derived from personō, meaning to sound/resound through. The etymology of this term may indicate, according to the theory of many researchers, the use of the mask in ancient European theatre as a kind of resonator, used to amplify the voices of ancient actors… I, on the other hand, was fascinated by it as a certain metaphor, allowing to look at the mask as a plastic medium, through which both the stage character, the sensitivity of the performer wearing it, but also the personality of the artist, its creator, may sound”.  Mateusz Mirowski
